Stories of Those We Helped Restore Justice
From the Heart – Gratitude for Restoring Justice
Dear Representatives of the World House of Justice,
With deep gratitude and respect, I am reaching out to express my heartfelt appreciation for your professional assistance in resolving a complex matter regarding the inheritance of my late grandfather.
Thanks to your dedicated work, and in particular the commitment of Ms. Anna Wojciechowska, justice was restored in a case that was fraught with difficulties and emotions. Ms. Anna demonstrated exceptional professionalism and dedication at every stage of the process. She was always available, ready to answer our questions and provide guidance. Her expertise, empathy, and patience were invaluable to us. Thanks to her, we felt we were in good hands.
Our grandfather left a will stating that his house should be passed on to his granddaughter. However, after his passing, we discovered that the house had been transferred to a woman who allegedly assisted him with household chores, based on a lifetime care agreement. We were in shock, as we had always maintained a close relationship with our grandfather and never suspected that such an issue could arise.
Upon launching an investigation, it was revealed that the agreement was signed on a day when our grandfather was in extremely poor health. He signed the contract at 9:00 AM at a notary’s office, and by 11:00 AM, he was admitted to the hospital. The doctor, after examining him, confirmed that he had lost his orientation and was unable to answer simple questions. This clearly indicated that he was not fully aware of what he was signing.
The situation became even more complicated when we discovered that the house had been immediately sold to multiple buyers, significantly hindering the process of restoring justice. However, thanks to the efforts of the entire World House of Justice team, especially Ms. Anna Wojciechowska, we were able to prove our case and reclaim the house for our family.
Throughout the entire process, we remained in constant contact with your team, which provided both legal and emotional support. Everyone involved displayed outstanding professionalism and dedication to resolving this matter. We could always count on assistance—not only legal but also psychological. Your support was invaluable, and every piece of advice was thorough and precise.
Thanks to the professionalism of your team and the dedication of Ms. Anna, we were able to restore justice and reclaim the house that, according to our grandfather’s wishes, was meant to remain in our family. We are truly grateful for every effort you put into this case.
With sincere gratitude,
Maria
A Journey to Freedom and Empowering Women
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Yulia Smart.
My experience with the association has been a beacon of hope and support during a period of my life that seemed without an escape. I lived in Italy, the country that is not my original, in a toxic marriage for 11 years, an experience that deeply affected me, both physically and psychologically. When my situation reached its breaking point, I found myself pregnant, in the hospital, with broken ribs and a damaged kidney. I didn't know where to turn for practical and legal help. Fear, loneliness, and shame had paralyzed me.
It was at that moment that I met Lilia, an extraordinary woman who, along with her organization, provided the support I desperately needed. Not only did she offer me legal and practical advice, but she managed to help me to see the light at the end of a tunnel that seemed endless. Her expertise, heart, and dedication were crucial in my journey toward freedom. I fought for years for my rights and the rights of my son, but without Lilia and her help, I'm not sure I would have made it through. For this, I will always be grateful. Her availability, patience, and professionalism were a constant support during a time of great vulnerability.
What makes my experience with the association truly unique is that they didn't just provide one-off advice or guidance. From the very first moment, I was followed step by step, and no question, no concern, no detail of my situation was left unheard. They walked with me through every stage of my way: from the legal complexities to the emotional and practical challenges. They were always there to listen, offer guidance, and provide solutions, helping me rebuild my life and move toward a healthier, safer future.
I am deeply grateful for the invaluable work the organization does. Their constant presence and genuine care made a difference in my life. Thanks to them, I not only survived but found the strength to thrive again. The commitment and effort of Lilia and everyone involved are truly priceless, and I cannot express enough how thankful I am for the support and kindness they showed me during one of the darkest times of my life.
With my lived experience and the direct knowledge of many women I have met over the years who have suffered from violence, I decided to launch a very actual project. Through the project "Liberi di Vivere" (Free to Live), I created a space for awareness and empowerment for women victims of violence. My mission: to provide women with the tools they need to gain awareness of what they are experiencing, rediscover their inner strength, and face the path toward freedom. Through events and photographic exhibitions as a photographer, I promote resilience and personal growth, giving practical help for the women in need. My team and I are committed to raising awareness in the community and promoting preventive measures to foster a positive and formative change.
Through my photo book "Frammenti di resilienza," that I'm going to publish in more languages, I hope to share my knowleges and offer an additional contribution to the cause. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that we are not alone. Together, we can free our voices and our strength.
I thank Lilia and her organization for their help and for inspiring and motivating me to also help other women who find themselves in dramatic situations.
I invite you to follow the project on Instagram @libere.di.vivere and on the Telegram channel @liberedivivere.
A big hug to all of you,
Yulia Smart
They Took My Leg and My Money, but Not My Voice!
I am 74 years old, a retiree, but until recently I was very active — I used to work part-time and led a normal, independent life.
Everything changed when I was hit by a car belonging to the company I worked for. As a result of the accident, I lost one leg, and the other suffered severe atrophy — since then, I’ve been using a wheelchair.
In that difficult moment, I turned to a law firm that was supposed to help me obtain compensation from PZU. The money — 55,000 PLN — was paid out by PZU but transferred to the law firm’s account. Over time, it became clear that the firm was not acting in good faith — communication was poor, there was a lack of transparency, and they took no real action on my behalf. Eventually, I revoked their power of attorney, but despite that, they kept all the money as so-called legal fees, even though they had done almost nothing for me.
Another law firm took over the compensation case, but it has dragged on ever since. For three years, I felt completely helpless. Only thanks to the support of the World House of Justice Association was I able to recover my money. Moreover, they succeeded in obtaining a conviction against the owner of the law firm — something no one had managed to achieve before. It turned out I wasn’t the only one — there were more people like me, deceived and left on their own.
I am incredibly grateful to the Association. Thanks to them, I believe again that justice still exists.
